Michael Rapaport has announced he will be running for mayor of New York City in 2029, in an attempt to oust the newly elected Zohran Mamdani.

The actor and comedian is known for his work in films such as True Romance and The Heat; as well as TV shows such as My Name Is Earl, Friends, and Prison Break. In recent years, he has been a vocal supporter of Israel, and has taken issue with Mamdani’s criticism of their conflict with Gaza.

On Monday’s (December 6) episode of his podcast I Am Rapaport, he announced his intention to run for mayor of New York City in order to replace Mamdani. “Let me tell you something, guys, girls, women, children of all ages” he began. “2025 was crazy, and I don’t see it getting any fucking calmer or cooler in 2026, the way things started. That’s why I’m running for mayor.”

He continued: “We have a shit stain at the helm right now. We have a shit stain at the helm right now in New York City, and it is a reality. It is a fucking reality. I think he’s going to supersede our wildest fears and expectations. Zohran the Zero, Zohran the Ziophobe, he is going to supersede all our fears and expectations.”

Regarding the early nature of the announcement, he explained: “People are like, ‘It’s upcoming, it’s in 2029. You’ve got to prepare now.” He then turned his attention to Mamdani once again.

“Do I think people are going to be getting chased around New York City with pitchforks? No, but he is softening the palate for so many fucking things.” He said. “He’s got a huge fucking ego,” he said. “He’s got a fucking evil fucking grin. And I think he’s up to no good.”

His intention to run was announced prior to the podcast episode on Instagram. “Born. Raised. NYC. Nothing’s free” he wrote. “No bullshit. No fake grins. I’ll own my mistakes, apologize when I screw up, and fight to make this city safe, affordable, and thriving. You got Zoron the Moron now… Mayor Rapaport is coming.”

Mayor Mamdani was elected on November 4 of last year, and inaugurated on New Year’s Day. Lucy Dacus performed the song ‘Bread And Roses’ at Zohran Mamdani’s at the inauguration.

Recently, Kim Petras offered to send Zohran Mamdani her new album if he does one thing for New York City.
