Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Ron Funches caught up with Kyle Meredith to talk about Loot Season 3, the Apple TV+ comedy that somehow makes obscene wealth, moral reckoning, and nude beaches work in one show. Rodriguez and Funches return alongside Maya Rudolph, Joel Kim Booster, and Nat Faxon in a new season that finds Molly Wells (Rudolph) still trying to give away her billions while the Wells Foundation’s misfits figure out how to keep up. Rodriguez says coming back for another round felt like a reunion more than a job. “I’m lucky and blessed to work with people who are so professional but also genuinely care for each other,” she tells Meredith. “That’s why our chemistry rocks on camera — because we rooted it in real friendship.” Funches adds that the writers’ room often borrows from their actual lives, including his real stint in pro wrestling: “They take a lot of our real-life loves and ask if we’re okay using them in the show. By now they’ve got such a great handle on the characters that I usually just say, ‘Yep, sounds great. Let’s do it.’”
The pair also spilled about the nude beach episode with guest star Henry Winkler, which was filmed in January in the cold. “He’s such a sweet and generous soul,” Rodriguez says, recalling a forehead kiss from the Barry star. Funches laughs, adding, “He’s one of the best things in my life. He still comments on my comedy videos!”
