Mike Francesa Goes Viral for Superman Movie Review: “Pure Torture to Sit Through”

5 hours ago 2

Mike Francesa, the one-time king of the New York sports talk radio, recently watched James Gunn’s critically acclaimed Superman film, and you’ll be shocked to find out he has strong opinions about it. On a recent episode of his podcast on the BetRivers Network, the Sports Pope went off on the movie because it didn’t align with his views of the character from the perspective of “an old-time, TV show Superman guy trying to get entertained for a couple hours.”

Moving past the “political innuendos,” which Francesa called “subtle as a jackhammer,” he called the film “pure torture to sit through. If my name was on the credits, I’d hide it, that’s how bad it was.” He then briefly conceded David Corenswet was an “okay Superman,” before getting to the crux of the argument.

“This was two hours of him getting the crap beat out of him. Who wants to see Superman get beat up for two hours?” Francesa whined. “He’s getting beat up by everybody. Plus, you have other superheroes in the movie… Who are these other superheroes? This is a Superman movie.”

“You want to see Superman flirt with Lois Lane, keep his disguise, and battle crime,” he continued. “… And good triumph over evil. That’s Superman. A little tongue-in-cheek, a little cartoony, a little campy, okay. This was unmitigated garbage.”

He then ranted about Superman’s foster dog Krypto, saying he never saw the character on TV and that the very good boy was “a bigger hero than Superman was.” The lengthy spiel continues with much, much more, including Francesa saying he would “want major, major cash” to rewatch the “worst thing I’ve ever seen” and speculating “the people who wrote this must have been on some kind of hallucinogen before they decided that this was a wrap.”

Mike Francesa went to see the new #SupermanMovie … and this is probably the greatest movie review you'll ever hear.
