Writer/producer Gina Matthews (13 Going on 30, Isn’t It Romantic?) and executive producers Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are teaming up for Dorothy, a modern-day adaptation of The Wizard of Oz. The “music-infused” YA series will use “the Yellow Brick Road as a metaphor for the challenges and choices facing young adults today,” according to Deadline.
In a statement Stefani said, “It’s a creative and modern take on a classic, and being part of something that blends music, emotion, and the character of Dorothy is inspiring to me.” The show is in development at Amazon’s Prime Video now, for release at a later date.

Dorothy will be just the latest project inspired by the classic books by L. Frank Baum, as the second part of Jon M. Chu’s Wicked adaptation, For Good arrives in theaters on November 21st.
Additionally, the original 1933 Wizard of Oz was recently brought to Sphere in Vegas, altered to fit the massive spherical screen. Tickets for that experience are available now.
