Moses Sumney and Paramore’s Hayley Williams have joined forces for a new psychedelic soul track, “I Like It I Like It.”
Over a hazy, trotting beat and twinkling electric piano, “I Like It I Like It” features Sumney and Williams narrating a blossoming relationship that’s become slightly too obsessive: they don’t just like their partner, they like them so much they’ve gone off the deep end emotionally. ‘Down bad’ is an understatement.
“A kiss on the cheek every time that we meet/ I turn cactus/ When we touch,” Sumney sings in the first verse, with Williams later remarking “You cover all the ‘zines in my conscious stream/ And that’s so fuckin’ weak/ I got subscriptions.” Meanwhile, they both attempt to face reality in the bridge, almost afraid to hear their partner open up romantically because that means the addictive streak won’t end any time soon. “I Like It I Like It” was written by Sumney alongside quickly, quickly and produced by regular SZA collaborator Rob Bisel. Sumney returned in 2024 with Sophcore, his first new music offering since taking a hiatus to explore acting and other creative projects; Sumney appeared in The Idol in 2023 and MaXXXine last year.
Williams, meanwhile, just sang backup vocals on Turnstile’s new track “Seein’ Stars,” joined Deftones onstage in her native Nashville, and performed at the Give a Fuck LA Benefit Concert for Wildfire Relief back in February.
