The band’s fourth full-length is a 10-track set that channels a broad sweep of influences – from The Who and The Blood Brothers to Otis Redding, Stereolab, MC5, and Wilson Pickett. Across its roughly 20-minute runtime, Mellotron loops sit alongside electric feedback squalls, while freakbeat riffs tangle with Stax/Volt-style hooks. The result leans into a mod-inspired aesthetic, drawing on the concise, explosive energy that has defined the band’s live reputation.
The new single “What’s New On The Beat Scene” encapsulates that approach, layering abstract punk angles atop fuzz bass and Townshend-esque feedback morse code, all driven by a rhythm section that nods to 60s mod and Motown.
Formed in Connecticut in
2015, Perennial – comprising Chad Jewett (guitar and vocals), Chelsey
Hahn (organ and vocals), and Ceej Wolf (drums) – have built a following
through relentless touring and a studio approach that incorporates
elements of free jazz, ambient electronica, dub, and musique concrète
into their punk framework. Working once again with producer Chris Teti (of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die),
the band have continued to refine their collage-like sound, balancing
experimental impulses with tight, hook-driven structures.
Perennial will embark on a UK tour in October, with dates including Oxford, Brighton, Liverpool, Leeds, Nottingham, Coventry, Manchester and London.
