Following the success of Hypnotised: A Journey Through Trance Music, Arjan Rietveld returns with a new Black Hole Recordings project. After meticulously tracking the genre’s evolution across the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and the US, Rietveld now pivots to a dedicated exploration of Balearic trance. Released as a three-part compilation, Hypnotised presents Balearic Trance takes a deep dive into the genre, detailing its historical roots and lasting impact.

The first disc, 1990s, starts with the contemplative, downtempo atmosphere of Chicane’s “Already There.” His lush soundscapes set the pace for a seamless transition into two quintessential Balearic anthems: Three Drives On A Vinyl’s “Greece 2000” and Nalin & Kane’s “Beachball.” The experience intensifies with the ethereal, psy-trance influence of Ferry Corsten’s “Air,” created under his Albion moniker, which brought a more complex, layered arrangement to the genre. Finally, Tiësto’s Summerbreeze remix of “Caught Me Running” embodies the era’s signature warm and melodic spirit, showcasing the early remix style that defined his rise.

As the second disc transitions into the 2000s/Indoors, the selection becomes increasingly hypnotic, reflecting the era’s shift toward more refined production.
