Transformers One, the animated origins movie based on the relationship between Optimus Prime and Megatron, is the most popular film in the franchise ever among fans.
Directed by Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4) and based on a screenplay by Eric Pearson (Black Widow), Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, it features a voice cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
Transformers One is a standalone film, separate from the saga that began with Michael Bay’s 2007 original film. Bay directed four further entries in the series. A spinoff feature, Bumblebee, arrived in 2018, starring Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena, and a 2023 sequel to that film arrived in 2023 in the form of Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film is officially the highest-rated movie in the franchise with a near-perfect 98 per cent Popcornmeter score among fans.
The audience score is based on over 500 ratings, and it easily sits seven points ahead of the last movie, Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, which earned a 91 per cent score.
“This is the Transformers movie we needed. All the live action versions were bad,” wrote one fan, while another added: “As someone who grew up with the original series and 86 movie, I loved this. Great for old fans and newcomers alike.”
A crossover between Hasbro’s two major toy lines was teased in the final scene of Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, where the Autobots were introduced to the special-forces organisation.
Transformers One is out in cinemas now.
