New Year’s Resolutions Playlist: A Fire Hip-Hop Workout

22 hours ago 5

Exercising without a good workout playlist is like taking a bath in lukewarm water. Sure, you can do it, but — and I cannot express this enough — why would ya? For those of you who get your sweat on while listening to nothing else but the various creaks and groans of the gym (or bathe in room-temperature water), let us show you that there’s a better way with two full hours of hip-hop bangers. Listen to it below via Amazon Music.

Whether you are a seasoned gym rat or your New Year’s Resolution is working regular expertise into your day-to-day schedule, the main challenge when it comes to staying active remains the same: motivation. The absolute hardest part of your trip to the gym is (and will always be) the commute. Once you’re in the building and moving, you’ve already won 80% of the battle. So, the trick is getting hyped up and staying hyped up — and that’s where we come in.

We spent weeks — nay, months… years, even! — in the lab scientifically creating a flawless hip-hop workout playlist. We lost a lot of good men in our pursuit of perfection, and many said it could never be done. But alas, we emerged on the other side with a collection of songs so powerful that it’s legally considered a steroid in certain jurisdictions.

Or, really, we put our heads together and compiled jams that make us want to run fast and lift heavy things. There are obvious picks like DMX’s “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” and Run the Jewels’ “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck)”; there are contemporary classics like Cardi B’s “Bodack Yellow” and Tyler, the Creator’s “NEW MAGIC WAND”; and there are unhinged underground rippers from acts like Revival Season, Death Grips, and Danny Brown. Basically, there’s everything you could want.

All told, these 32 cuts will get your ass moving. Not to pat ourselves on the back, but we might even call it the perfect hip-hop workout playlist. Give it a test run next time you pick up a dumbbell or hit the treadmill and see for yourself.
