Nia Archives is set to deliver her sophomore album, Emotional Junglist, this summer. In the meantime, fans can get a taste of the effort via “Boys In Blue.”
Nia Archives has emerged as the poster child of modern jungle thanks to her post-pandemic career breakthrough. But with her sophomore album, Emotional Junglist, she looks to prove that she isn’t confined to a single genre. It’s due out July 24 via Island Records.
Standing as testament to the follow-up effort’s eclectic musings is its lead single, “Boys In Blue.” In it, Nia explores a largely instrumental indie rock sound, her vocals an amazingly just fit for the attitude in the song’s guitar riffs.
“Boys In Blue” has arrived alongside a full music video. It depicts Nia running through a metropolis in slow motion, with cars and pedestrians zooming past her in the frantic pace of time lapse footage.
For what it’s worth, this isn’t the first time Nia Archives has explored sounds outside of her immediate jungle and drum and bass sound signature. Several songs on her April 2024 debut album, Silence is Loud, incorporated acoustic instruments, with critics comparing them to indie-pop and Britpop.
“Boys In Blue” follows Nia’s March single, “Danger,” which will also appear on Emotional Junglist. This one, at least, featured one of the frenetic, syncopated beats commonly associated with the jungle genre.
Nia Archives has been active since 2019, originally uploading tracks to SoundCloud under the alias Indigo G. Her career gained significant momentum once she was honored by the MOBO Awards as an Electronic/Dance artist in 2022, after writing the annual presentation to request that they add the category.
Pre-order Emotional Junglist in vinyl and CD formats via Island Records.
