The attorney defending Nick Reiner from charges that he allegedly murdered his parents, Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer, has removed himself from the case. As the New York Times reports, the 32-year-old suspect will be represented by a public defender.
The move may signal that the rest of the Reiner family is removing financial resources for Nick’s defense. The family released a statement saying “They have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings.”
Nick is facing first-degree murder charges for the killing of his parents on December 14th. He is eventually expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity, with an argument based on his diagnosis of schizo-affective disorder and alleged issues with his medication.
Nick’s former attorney, Alan Jackson, also defended Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey. In a press conference after he resigned his position, Jackson reiterated his belief that “Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder.”
