Noah Weiland, son of the late Scott Weiland, will perform a set of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver songs on the 10th anniversary of the singer’s passing December 3rd at the Garden Amp outdoor amphitheater in Orange County, California. He’ll be joined on the bill by Jakob Nowell, son of late Sublime singer Bradley Nowell.

The 24-year-old Noah has been making music for the past several years, both as singer of the defunct band Suspect208 and as a solo artist. He told Rolling Stone of the upcoming show, “My old therapist gave me the idea to throw a party, get-together for my father. I didn’t even realize it was about to be 10 years until he brought it up. My brain started cooking ideas up instantly.”

Noah, who previously covered STP’s “Sex Type Thing”  and Velvet Revolver’s “Slither,” is diving into his dad’s material leading up to the show (tickets available here), saying, “Considering we thought of this whole thing and locked it in two weeks ago, I got a whole lot of rehearsals, AA meetings, and praying to do. I’m keeping [the setlist a] surprise. Just expect hits from different eras and even some deep cuts, underrated songs. I’ll definitely do a solo song or two of my own tunes, but they will be more rock and grunge based to fit the vibe of the show.”

The young Weiland says he’s learned to appreciate his father’s music in recent years, explaining, “I can honestly say I’ve had a very tough posthumous relationship with my father. Most of my life I grew up on rap music, but I always go through deep phases of listening to other genres. Lately, it’s been mostly rock bands that I have been tapped in with again, and I definitely have a place in my heart for my dad’s music.”

Noah will be backed by guitarist Carr Reed, bassist Miles Christian Davis, and drummer Connor J Sears for the gig, which takes place exactly 10 years to the day that Scott Weiland passed away.

As mentioned, the concert is a double bill with Jakob Nowell, who currently fronts Sublime, playing alongside original members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh.

“Jakob and I have known each other for a grip now,” said Noah. “Mind you, he’s doing this show with me even after the little beef we had for a brief moment. And the fact that we were able to put aside our pride, talk about our differences like adults and still show love, makes me love the dude even more.”

Meanwhile, Stone Temple Pilots continue to tour with singer Jeff Gutt, but Noah noted that he’s had no contact with the surviving members for a long while. “I really haven’t talked with any of them in almost a decade now. I’m not sure if it has something to do with their relationship to my mom, but she isn’t in my life either. I’m always open to catching up.”
