Pantera, Primus, Ghost Pay Tribute to Ozzy During Their Respective Concerts: Watch

A multitude of bands who are currently on tour paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne during their Tuesday (July 22nd) gigs, including some of his fellow rockers: Pantera, Primus, and Ghost.

Pantera have been covering Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan” for years, having famously included a studio version on 1994’s Far Beyond Driven. Their performance of the song on Tuesday night in Cincinnati was particularly somber and spine-chilling, however, as the band played an accompanying tribute video to Ozzy on the big screen, featuring pics from throughout late singer’s life.

As for Primus, the band didn’t have an immediate Sabbath/Ozzy cover in their back pocket, but Les Claypool and company did sprinkle in bits and pieces throughout their set in Bridgeport, Connecticut. A tease of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” could be heard during opening song “Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers,” and the band later played a partial version of “Crazy Train” — featuring images of Ozzy on the big screen — before tossing in the riff from Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” as the intro to “HOINFODAMAN.”

Meanwhile, Ghost acknowledged Ozzy’s passing during their gig at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Although the band didn’t cover any material, frontman Papa V Perpetua, aka Tobias Forge, did take a moment midway through the set to dedicate the sold-out MSG show to Ozzy, inciting chants from the crowd: “Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy!” Forge told the audience, “For being the Prince of Darkness, he sure gave us a lot of light.”

In Consequence‘s recent cover story on Ghost, Forge told us, “The influence that Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne have had on me is absolutely immense. I fucking love Ozzy. I think he’s amazing, a huge influence for me… I can’t really thank them enough.”
