Pat Smear Will Miss Upcoming Foo Fighters Tour Dates After Breaking Foot in Gardening Accident

2 days ago 4

Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear has suffered a broken foot from a gardening accident and will miss some of the band’s upcoming tour dates.

According to Foo Fighters’ Instagram post relaying the news — itself fashioned as a tabloid magazine cover — Smear injured himself in a “bizarre gardening accident” and broke multiple bones in his left foot. The image shows Smear in good spirits as he’s carted off to an ambulance, smiling and flipping off the camera.

As a result of the injury, he’ll miss “a few” of the band’s upcoming tour dates to heal, including Foo Fighters’ benefit show in Los Angeles on January 14th and shows in Australia and Mexico this month. Smear will be replaced by guitarist Jason Falkner, who has played frequently alongside Beck, Air, St. Vincent, Noel Gallagher, and more. It’s unknown how long Smear will be in recovery, but if they’ve brought the throne out once before, they surely can do it again for Pat Smear.

“In the classic tradition of rockstars having bizarre gardening accidents, Pat Smear has apparently rung in the new year by smashing the shit out of his left foot,” reads the caption of Foo Fighters’ Instagram post. “This means he’ll unfortunately be missing a few shows while the multiple broken bones in his foot heal. We’ll miss our beloved Pat as much as you will, but we want him fully healed and back on his feet as soon as possible. Beck and St. Vincent guitar wizard Jason Falkner will be filling in for Pat while he’s on the mend.”

Following the Foo’s trio of January shows, their next live appearance will come in May when they headline Florida’s Welcome to Rockville. The band will then be on the road all summer for the UK, European, and North American legs of their “Take Cover” tour alongside Queens of the Stone Age.
