Pearl Jam treated fans attending their Nashville concert at Bridgestone Arena last night (Thursday, May 8th) by bringing out legendary special guest Peter Frampton to perform their classic ballad “Black.”

Frampton, who has battled the degenerative muscle disease inclusion body myositis in recent years, walked onstage with the aid of a cane. After a welcoming roar from the crowd, he delivered a scorching performance on an extended version of the Ten cut while seated alongside Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready. “This gentleman was someone we looked up to before the Ramones,” frontman Eddie Vedder said while introducing Frampton. “Some of our first guitar heroes, [like] Jimmy Page and Pete Townsend, he was right up there. It was one of the reasons why we loved live records, and later we decided to release bootlegs because of his influence.”

Vedder continued, “He’s such an incredible human being on top of it. It is our honor, because at this point, he’s become a good friend to the group. He’s recorded with Mike and [drummer] Matt Cameron, and we get to play with him tonight.”

After kicking off their US tour in Florida last month, Pearl Jam have only a handful of remaining dates in Raleigh and Pittsburgh. They are also scheduled to play Vedder’s own Ohana Festival in late September. Get tickets for all of their upcoming dates here.

In June, Frampton will launch a US solo tour of his own, featuring dates in Reno, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and more. Get tickets here.
