In early June, Netflix dropped their first teaser trailer for the fifth and final season of their cult classic series, Stranger Things, and now, we’ve finally have the first official trailer to the upcoming swan song season. And boy does it look like we’re in for one helluva ride.

Picking up where the finale of Season 4 left off (three years ago smh), the dream team out of Hawkins, Indiana, are left to deal with openings in the Rift, which allow creatures from the upside down dimension to enter our world and attempt to take over our reality. Led by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) the team must face off with the creatures, and ultimately Vecna, who finally makes his way to Earth for the final showdown.

The official synopsis for the final season is as follows:

“Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”

With a terrified look on the face of every single character throughout the trailer, one can only wonder which one of the Stranger Things alumni will actually live to see the light of day when it’s all said and done. We low-key have hope that the Black characters (Lucas and Erica Sinclair played by Caleb McLaughlin and Priah Ferguson respectively) will outrun the whole “Black people always die in horror” jinx that’s been proven true on the horror genre over the past few decades. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The final season of Stranger Things will be broken up into two volumes with Volume 1 premiering Nov. 26 and Volume 2 dropping Dec. 25.
