The track was born when the band were driving through LA last year and their Uber driver pointed out Cielo Drive - the location where the infamous Manson murders took place. The band share: “The location felt oddly reflective of our experience of LA: a place that can look so peaceful on its suburban surface yet harbours such darkness. When we got to the studio we started flicking through pages of a book we had about the ‘dark corners of Hollywood’ - and lo and behold, Cielo Drive cropped up again. And so Cielo Drive became the backdrop to a song which really just felt like a steam of consciousness about our interactions with people in California, a place so alien to us.”
The track follows on from "Who’s There To Love Without You?" – the first single since Picture Parlour released their debut EP, Face In The Picture, last year.
The band also announce a string of performances at independent venues in association with Music Venue Trust in July. Speaking on its importance to Picture Parlour and their story, Katherine Parlour shares: “The first time we met was at The Castle in Manchester. Ella was playing a show that night in a different band. As soon as Ella had packed up her gear, I walked straight up with two pints in hand and introduced myself. There and then we decided to start a band, and the rest is history. None of that would’ve happened without independent spaces like The Castle: venues where like minded people can meet and build something brand new together.
These treasured venues are vanishing rapidly. Independent spaces across the UK are falling victim to mass redevelopment, forced to shut down under impossible financial and security demands. We’re talking about the heart of our music scene here. We owe everything to independent venues, as they provide us creatives with opportunities that we otherwise wouldn’t have. They deserve to be protected, supported, and celebrated, not erased.”
