Pinkshift have announced their new album, Earthkeeper, out August 29th via Hopeless Records. As the latest preview, the CoSign alums have shared their explosive new single, “Anita Ride,” and its accompanying music video.
Marking a heavy shift in the Maryland trio’s sound, Earthkeeper draws influences from bands like Loathe and Knocked Loose. In a press release, the sophomore LP is described as “a patchwork of anxiety, angst, grief, and hope, juggling experiences both personal and existential across themes such as loss, one’s individual purpose, and what it means to watch the notion of a stable life collapse before your eyes.”
“I love the direction that the metal scene is going in and if I could reflect that in any way with respect to the guitar playing that was going on, I’d jump at every opportunity,” guitarist Paul Vallejo said in a statement.
Vocalist Ashrita Kumar added, “I think with this record, I’m trying to inspire you to, give a fuck. You’re worth giving a fuck about. I feel like people don’t give a fuck about themselves but in the same way those redwood trees told me I’m welcome here, you matter and you belong here.”
A cathartic track with sprinkled-in metal riffs, “Anita Ride” was a moment when the band shed their “old skin,” Kumar explained. She also called the song “a release, a reminder, a cathartic moment to give yourself permission to share the weight that you feel in the moments you feel heavy with grief with others and give yourself credit for everything you have done.”
In addition, the second verse was inspired by Kendrick Lamar, with Kumar channeling “the way that he talks to his higher self in his greatest moment of self-doubt, because self-doubt is the enemy of creativity. The feeling that I have less is the enemy of my prosperity.”

Earthkeeper also features the previous single “Evil Eye,” and pre-orders are ongoing. The project follows their 2022 debut album, Love Me Forever, and EPs suraksha and love me for the summer, which dropped in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
In September, Pinkshift will play Brooklyn’s CBGB Festival alongside headliners Iggy Pop and Jack White, Sex Pistols Featuring Frank Carter, Johnny Marr, The Damned, Melvins, Lambrini Girls, The Linda Lindas, Lip Critic, and more. Get tickets here.
