Portland, OR hardcore punk legends Poison Idea are unearthing some very early material for a new compilation, Pearls Before Swine: The Early Years Volume 2, which is coming out on TKO Records. It features a recording from their first show as a hardcore band, on New Year’s Eve 1980 (following their even earlier days as a no wave-inspired band), an Adolescents cover, two Black Flag covers, and more.
We’re premiering one of the Black Flag covers, “No Values,” which Poison Idea did a delightfully messy rendition of. “That first Black Flag 7 inch, the following compilation cuts and B-sides (before Damaged), were like gold to us,” Jerry A says. “They spoke LOUDLY to us.” Listen and check out the comp’s Blue Note-inspired artwork below.
