Primus have announced the Summer 2025 “Onwards & Upwards” US tour featuring new drummer John Hoffman.
Ty Segall and MonoNeon will rotate as support for the outing, which kicks off July 5th in Paso Robles, California, and wraps up with a two-night stand in Sacramento on August 7th and 8th. The tour will hit Chicago, New York City, Dallas, and Los Angeles, along with the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, among other stops.
A Live Nation ticket pre-sale for select dates begins Thursday (March 27th) at 10 a.m. local time using the code FUNKY. General ticket sales start Friday (March 28th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
Primus mastermind Les Claypool shared the following statement via a press release:
“Hitting the road this summer with Hoffer at the helm! This fiery, cheerful, octopus-like drummer from Shreveport, Louisiana has breathed a very potent breath of freshness into this band we all call PRIMUS.
While splitting the drum duties of his first gig with the mighty Danny Carey down in the Dominican Republic, John “Hoffer” Hoffman has launched himself into the PRIMUS world with all guns-a-blazin’.
Fresh from their next jaunt around the states with Sessanta Part 2 this Spring, Hoffer, Ler, and The Ol’ Colonel will be playing some full length PRIMUS sets at choice venues across the US, dipping into material (mainly at the request of Hoffer) that have not been performed in a many years.
Come see why this amazing fellow was able to rise above over 6100 applicants to win the Interstellar Drum Derby and become the latest, and possibly the greatest, drummer to sit on the PRIMUS drum throne.
ONWARD AND UPWARD!!”
Hoffman was tapped as Primus’ new drummer after the band held open auditions, which entailed a five-day “interstellar drum derby” and jams with Primus on the West Coast.
He made his debut behind the kit during the band’s appearance at Tool’s destination festival in February, with Danny Carey also sitting in on the set. Meanwhile, Hoffman’s first run of tour dates with Primus is month away, when the band heads out on the “Sessanta V2.0” tour with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
