Prince’s landmark 1987 concert film Sign O’ the Times is being re-released in IMAX. IMAX, Mercury Studios and FilmRise have announced that icon’s live concert movie will be released in IMAX theaters globally for one week only — beginning on Aug. 29.

Helmed by Prince and mostly shot at his Paisley Park soundstage, the movie mixes live footage with scripted scenes and it’s been “enhanced with IMAX’s precision surround sound audio, customized theatre geometry, and crystal-clear images, Prince’s virtuoso performance is set to mesmerize fans old and new in the most epic format available,” per an official statement from IMAX.

It was released as the visual companion to Prince’s Grammy-nominated double album of the same name; and Sign O’ the Times expertly captures Prince and his late 1980s band, which included Sheila E., Levi Seaver, Dr. Fink, Boni Boyer, Miko Weaver, Atlanta Bliss, Eric Leeds and Cat Glover. Pop star Sheena Easton also makes an appearance.

Hits like “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” and “If I Was Your Girlfriend” as well as the Easton-assisted “U Got the Look” are all showcased.

The news of Sign O’ the Times being re-released comes just months after a major Prince documentary was shelved by Netflix. The project was made by O.J.: Made in America creator Ezra Edelman. In a report from Variety, the streaming service said in a statement to the outlet that it would no longer be moving forward with Edelman’s project, and would instead be working with Prince’s estate on a film.

“The Prince Estate and Netflix have come to a mutual agreement that will allow the estate to develop and produce a new documentary featuring exclusive content from Prince’s archive,” Netflix said. “As a result, the Netflix documentary will not be released.

Billboard reports that IMAX will distribute the movie in the U.S.; Pathé will be handling distribution in other territories around the world. More information is coming on private screenings and other invite-only events in New York, Los Angeles and Minneapolis in August.
