Pulp really pulled it off. Last year, the reunited Britpop legends released More, their first album in a quarter-century, and it absolutely ruled, fully earning its spot within the band's discography. It's not better than Different Class or anything, but it can hang with We Love Life just fine, and it easily outclasses anything that the band did before His 'N' Hers. After the LP's release, Pulp headed out on a victory-lap tour, released a handful of extra songs, and covered ABBA and Johnny Cash. Now, they're announcing a new concert film with the fitting title Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore, as well as an accompanying live album.
Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore is a 90-minute film document that captures Pulp's full 20-song set at an unnamed arena, as well as previously unseen archival stuff. Frontman Jarvis Cocker narrates it, and a press release promises that it's "in the spirit of Stop Making Sense and The Last Waltz," almost certainly the two best concert films ever made. Lofty goals! This time around, the director is not Jonathan Demme or Martin Scorsese; it's British journeyman Garth Jennings. These days, Jennings is best-known for the animated musical hits Sing and Sing 2. Back in the day, though, he directed Pulp's videos for "Help The Aged" and "A Little Soul," as well as a bunch of classic clips for other artists.
Right now, we don't have a trailer or a release date for What Do You Do For An Encore; we just know that it'll debut on MUBI sometime this fall. But we do have a tracklist and a release date for Pulp's accompanying live album, which is set to come out later this summer and creatively titled LIVE! They've also shared the live versions of their classics "Disco 2000" and "A Sunset." They sound tremendous, and the crowd singalong really adds something. Sadly, the audio clips don't include any images of Jarvis Cocker archly flailing about, but that's what the movie is for. Check out those two live tracks and the tracklist below.
