‘Pure Trance XI’ Welcomes a New Chapter for the Beloved Series

Pure Trance XI flips the script on its predecessors by capturing the energy and emotion of the dancefloor in real time, as it was performed by Solarstone and Orkidea live in London.

Solarstone has championed the sounds of trance since the beginning of his artist journey, and his Pure Trance imprint also embodies that ethos. Over the years, he’s showcased countless tunes on the label and offered even more curation through the Pure Trance compilation series. Yet after 10 editions, something still didn’t feel quite right, so he went back to the drawing board for the 11th volume of the series, and the result is one that’s grounded in the culture.

In February, Solarstone and longtime friend Orkidea traveled to iconic London nightclub fabric for a special night. There, the two artists would spin a set that was recorded live, catching every moment, filter release, crowd response, and more. That performance would inevitably become Pure Trance XI, which is out now via Black Hole Recordings.

Sonically, Pure Trance XI isn’t all that much different from previous iterations in the iconic series. Listeners are met with tracks that are among the freshest in the scene, along with a dose of underground weapons and curated classics sprinkled throughout. Of course, Solarstone and Orkidea also offer up some of their finest tunes for fans to feast their ears. But the live element of Pure Trance XI makes it even more magical; there’s a certain energy that pulses as the four-hour ride takes hold, sure to keep listeners engaged from start to finish.

Orkidea’s “XP100” starts the first hour, which then offers plenty of gems that include Obie Dick’s “Foreplay,” Eelke Kleijn’s “Lately,” and Novacode’s “Broken Soul” before you’re met with the two artists’ “Slowmotion VII.” Then, the energy of the night begins to swell, dashing the chilled progressive vibe for one that’s more trance-forward, delivering an impactful change as if you were right there in the crowd at fabric itself.

From Pico Boulevard’s “Everybody’s Nobody” and Dual 56’s “Another Place” to Super-Frog Saves Tokyo’s “Clarion” and Trancendant’s “Empyrean,” you’ll quickly find yourself embraced by everything there is to love about trance. The ride continues with other fantastic tracks like Markus Schulz’s “Forgotten Element,” SØNIN and Orkidea’s “Avril,” Matti Laamanen’s “Flakes,” and Peter Steele’s “Moment of Truth,” all of which help the set drive deeper into the night.

Then, with a one-two punch of Solarstone’s “Energy Field” and Bryan Kearney’s rework of Orkidea’s “Beautiful,” Pure Trance XI comes to a close, leaving you in a blissed-out state of mind. This compilation is a proper reminder of the depth, emotion, and energy that trance brings, and it’s a solid addition to the compilation’s legacy as it opens a new chapter.
