Purity Ring, the Canadian synthpop duo of Corin Roddick and Megan James, has announced their first album in five year. The eponymous release will arrive on September 26th via the duo’s label the fellowship. What’s more, the duo has announced a headlining North American tour occurring later this fall, and released the single “place of my own.” Listen to the new song below.
Purity Ring was inspired by video games Final Fantasy X and NieR: Automata while making their self-titled fourth record. The concept album aims to emulate an accompanying soundtrack for a role-playing game, with two digital avatars of the duo setting off on a “journey to build a kinder world amid the ruins of a broken one,” according to press materials.
New single “place of my own” follows the two-part single “many lives” and “part ii.” “This is one of those songs that came into being with ease and immediacy,” Purity Ring said in a press statement. “We were in a hazy forest in the mountains, and the beat felt just like the cloud we were in. It was succinct and ready for the type of lyrics that imbued places we dream of, places we wish we could exist in, places we see everyday but are just out of reach.”
They continued, “In the end, this song is meant as a sort of spell in the way that maybe we can reach these places if we watch our steps carefully, if we take the time to build them for ourselves.”
Purity Ring will embark on a North American tour later this fall to celebrate their fourth album. The “Place of My Own Tour” will kick off on October 13th in Ventura, California, before hitting major stops in Denver, Chicago, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Nashville, and more. The tour will conclude on November 12th in Los Angeles. Tickets for the duo’s tour go on sale to general public on Thursday, July 17th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster and the band’s website.
Purity Ring’s last album Womb was released in 2020 via 4AD. In 2022, they dropped the Graves EP.
