A sequel to 2019’s hit horror-comedy film Ready Or Not has been confirmed.
Ready Or Not 2 was announced at a special screening of the original film this past weekend, with Samara Weaving – who starred in the 2019 film – present to confirm her return.
A release date has yet to be announced, nor have any plot details. However, it was revealed that the original film’s writers Guy Busick and Ryan Murphy will pen the upcoming sequel, and will also serve as executive producers.
2019’s Ready Or Not followed a young bride (Weaving) who was marrying into the rice family who own a game empire. As is tradition, Weaving is made to randomly pick a game to play to cement her initiation into the family. When she picks Hide And Seek, the family begin playing a twisted and lethal iteration of the game, believing that they need to kill her to ensure the survival of their bloodline.
Ready Or Not 2 was first teased in September, when the actor said she was “all in” for a potential sequel, but wasn’t sure if other creatives involved in the first film felt the same way.
Since Ready Or Not, Samara Weaving has become somewhat of a scream queen, being cast in several horror-adjacent films including The Babysitter and Scream VI.
In a four-star review of Ready Or Not for NME, Mark Grassick wrote: “Despite its tongue-in-cheek approach, it’s hard to refer to Ready Or Not as a horror comedy. As a horror, it isn’t all that scary; as a comedy, it’s not quite funny enough. But somehow, it transcends what would ordinarily be a fatal double-whammy to become something difficult to define but easy to surmise: a hell of a lot of fun.”
