Capcom has finally confirmed the existence of Resident Evil 9, with the horror sequel due to launch next year.
Appearing in a pre-recorded video message at Summer Games Fest on Friday (June 6) Capcom game director Jun Takeuchi thanked fans for their ongoing support and reminded them that Resident Evil was set to celebrate its 30th anniversary next year. “Now, about the latest Resident Evil game you’ve all been waiting for, bear with us a little longer, just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready,” he added.
However, right at the end of the show, a trailer for Resident Evil Requiem was revealed which gave fans a glimpse of what happened to the now-abandoned Racoon City after the events of Resident Evil 2 and 3.
“The highly anticipated ninth title in the mainline series, Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27, 2026,” added an accompanying statement. “Prepare to escape death in a heart-stopping experience that will chill you to your core.”
“A new era of survival horror begins in 2026. Technological advancements combined with the development team’s depth of experience combine in a story with rich characters and gameplay that’s more immersive than ever before.”
“Resident Evil Requiem features a new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, who is given a case to investigate, leading to the terrifying events to follow. While survival horror takes centerstage, Resident Evil Requiem will feature high-stakes cinematic action that will take the series in a bold new direction,” explained PlayStation in a blog post. Fans are currently speculating that Grace is related to Alyssa Ashcroft from the Resident Evil Outbreak games.
