For more than a decade, Zeds Dead have turned Denver’s Fourth of July weekend into a pilgrimage for bass music fans. What began as an annual Red Rocks tradition has evolved into one of electronic music’s most anticipated destination events, bringing together thousands of fans for multiple days of music, community, and unforgettable moments.
This year’s edition, however, marked the beginning of a new era. Drawing more than 30,000 fans across four events in three days, the duo launched their Journey of a Lifetime Tour with sold-out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the annual Deadbeats Backyard Jamboree, and the Mission Ballroom Hangover show, while debuting Return to the Return (of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness) live for the first time.
Accompanied by their most ambitious production to date, the new “Channel Flipping” visual concept transformed every performance into a cinematic experience, seamlessly weaving together music, television, film, archival footage, and nostalgic cultural references to introduce the next era of Zeds Dead.
Deadrocks XI Night One
From the moment fans entered into Red Rocks Amphitheatre, it was clear this wasn’t business as usual. Night One served as the live debut of Return to the Return (of the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness), introducing audiences to Zeds Dead’s newest creative chapter.
Musically, the set balanced fresh material with longtime fan favorites, allowing the new songs to breathe while still delivering the heavy bass, emotional melodies, and unpredictable pacing that have defined Zeds Dead’s live shows for years.
The duo wasted no time setting the tone, starting off early with Wooli’s remix of “Rudeboy” before unveiling a string of new material, including an unreleased collaboration with Distinct Motive that quickly became one of the night’s biggest talking points. But the most unforgettable moment arrived when Zeds Dead performed their new single, “Pourin Rain,” just as rain began falling over Red Rocks. The perfectly timed weather transformed an already emotional performance into a truly magical, once-in-a-lifetime moment that embodied the spirit of the Journey of a Lifetime era.
The night concluded with the longtime favorites “White Satin” and “ACL TV” before the duo’s signature “Pure Imagination” outro sent fans home on a nostalgic note. Zeds Dead delivered a finale that perfectly balanced appreciation for their past with excitement for everything still to come.
Deadrocks XI Night Two
Building upon the previous evening’s momentum, Zeds Dead delivered another marathon journey through dubstep, drum & bass, hip-hop influences, melodic bass, and everything in between. The constantly shifting visuals ensured that even returning attendees experienced something fresh, reinforcing the “Channel Flipping” concept as an integral part of the performance rather than simply a backdrop.
By the second sold-out night, it was clear why Deadrocks remains one of dance music’s premier annual traditions. Rather than relying on familiar formulas, Zeds Dead once again reinvented the experience while staying true to the community that has made the event so special.
Night Two rewarded longtime fans with a carefully curated mix of new material and beloved classics. Highlights included the return of “Rescue (Bloom Remix),” a flip of Destiny’s Child’s classic “Say My Name,” the new single “Falling Down,” and timeless remixes like Massive Attack’s “Paradise Circus (Zeds Dead Remix)” and “Collapse (Vysar Remix).” By the end of the evening, many fans were already debating whether Night Two had surpassed its predecessor, a problem most artists would happily welcome.
Deadbeats Backyard Jamboree
Beyond the headline performances, the annual Deadbeats Backyard Jamboree once again highlighted what makes the Deadbeats brand unique. Equal parts block party and fan celebration, the daytime event offered a more relaxed atmosphere where attendees could gather before the night’s festivities.
Complete with food vendors, activities, exclusive merchandise, artist appearances, and live performances, the Jamboree has become an essential piece of the Deadbeats weekend experience. It reinforces that the weekend extends far beyond concerts, creating an environment where fans can connect with one another while celebrating the culture surrounding the label.
That emphasis on community has long set Deadbeats apart from other electronic music brands, and the Jamboree continues to embody that spirit year after year.
Mission Ballroom
As tradition dictates, the weekend concluded with the Mission Ballroom Hangover show, but even longtime attendees couldn’t have anticipated how the final performance would unfold.
The duo delivered two full sets, giving fans one final opportunity to immerse themselves in the new era before bringing the weekend to an unforgettable close. While the opening performance showcased the breadth of Zeds Dead’s catalog, the second set delivered the moment everyone would be talking about long after the lights came up.
In a surprise appearance, Of The Trees joined the duo for an unexpected b2b performance, instantly sending the crowd into a frenzy. The collaboration blended both artists’ signature styles into a seamless showcase of deep bass, experimental sound design, and high-energy drops, providing the perfect finale to an already historic weekend.
The surprise encapsulated everything that has made Deadbeats events so beloved over the years: unpredictability, collaboration, and unforgettable moments that reward the fans who make the journey.
More Than Another Deadbeats Weekend
Deadbeat’s Fourth of July Weekend has become one of bass music’s defining annual traditions, but this year’s edition carried an added sense of significance.
After more than a decade of building one of electronic music’s most beloved annual traditions, Zeds Dead could have easily relied on familiarity. Instead, they introduced an ambitious visual concept, debuted an entirely new album, and built a weekend that felt fresh without abandoning the community that helped make Deadbeats what it is today.
For everyone experiencing it for the first time, the weekend served as a compelling reminder that few artists continue to evolve their live experience as successfully as Zeds Dead. If this weekend was any indication, the Journey of a Lifetime is only just beginning.
