Run The Jewels Present Best Bartender At The 2026 James Beard Awards

Did you know that the James Beard Awards, the vaunted chef/restaurant distinction that gets mentioned on shows like Top Chef a lot, have an actual award show? Maybe you did know that. Maybe that's common knowledge, and I'm the idiot just obliviously dumping Nerds Clusters into my open face while everyone else is on a journey of culinary discovery. In any case, "the Oscars of the food world" went down Monday night in Chicago, and Run The Jewels presented the Best Bartender award.

Run The Jewels have their won canned cocktail brand called Juice Runners, which is why Killer Mike and El-P made an appearance at last night's James Beard Restaurant And Chef Awards. RTJ launched Juice Runners last year, and they served their Paloma REMIX, the only flavor currently available, backstage. At the show, Mike and El-P also appeared on the red carpet and presented some drinking categories.

Mike and El-P presented the awards for Best New Bar and Outstanding Professional In Cocktail Service. Best New Bar went to Loma in Providence, and our Outstanding Professional bartender is Kevin Diedrich, of San Francisco's Pacific Cocktail Haven. In his speech, Diedrich, who does not have one of those curly mixologist mustaches, said, "I don't know what to say… I'm just a bartender." Shout out to the one guy from Loma who's a foot taller than everyone else. I'm right there with you, brother. Watch it all happen below, around the 1:13:10 mark.

And here's Jamie and Mike on the red carpet, shouting out the Chicago restaurant Schwa.

Last year, RTJ opened the Wu-Tang Clan tour that was supposed to be their big farewell. Today, DJ Shadow releases a 10th-anniversary remix of "Nobody Speak," his RTJ collab that has appeared in a ton of ads and movie trailers (most notably the Black Panther preview) since its release. This remix has verses from Denzel Curry and TiaCorine. Both of them are members of the Scythe, the new rap crew whose album Strictly 4 The Scythe came out earlier this year. Memorable Curry line: "Everybody wanna catch a snitch like Quidditch." No new RTJ verses, though. Listen below.

Killer Mike released his Grammy-sweeping album Michael in 2023. Yesterday, he said that he's currently at work on Michael 2.

It's been six years since Run The Jewels released RTJ4, their last album, but apparently they're not done yet; Mike says that RTJ5 is also in the works.
