Sabrina Carpenter Is Considering Banning Phones from Her Shows

4 hours ago 4

Sabrina Carpenter is open to the possibility of banning phones at her concerts, describing a phone-less night seeing Silk Sonic as the best concert experience she’s ever had.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the pop singer opened up about the possibility of implementing a phone-locking policy at her shows — a practice already embraced by Madonna, Adele, Paul McCartney, and others. While she’s warming up to the idea, she’s aware it could spark backlash. “This will honestly piss off my fans,” Carpenter admitted.

She cited a positive experience seeing Silk Sonic as the basis of her argument. “I went to see Silk Sonic in Vegas, and they locked my phone. I’ve never had a better experience at a concert,” she noted. “I genuinely felt like I was back in the ’70s — wasn’t alive. Genuinely felt like I was there. Everyone’s singing, dancing, looking at each other, and laughing. It really, really just felt so beautiful.”

Carpenter continued: “I’ve grown up in the age of people having iPhones at shows. It unfortunately feels super normal to me. I can’t blame people for wanting to have memories. But depending on how long I want to be touring, and what age I am, girl, take those phones away. You cannot zoom in on my face. Right now, my skin is soft and supple. It’s fine. Do not zoom in on me when I’m 80 years old up there.”

Elsewhere in her new interview with Rolling Stone — which contains dozens of quotes not included in the publication’s cover story from June 12th — Carpenter provided more details about “Manchild,”  discussed performing alongside Paul Simon for SNL’s 50th anniversary show this year, named some special advice given by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus, mentioned Jack Antonoff’s affection for Electric Light Orchestra, and explained why she steers clear of marijuana (“I like things that smell good,” she said).

Sabrina Carpenter resurfaced this month with “Manchild,” which recently landed at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and announced her Short ’n Sweet follow-up Man’s Best Friendset for release on August 29th. We named “Manchild” our Song of the Week upon release.

Carpenter will kick off the next leg of her “Short n’ Sweet” tour this summer; get tickets to see her here.
