Sam Fender – “I’m Always On Stage”

2 hours ago 3

UK rocker Sam Fender is an extremely big deal in his homeland. Last month, he won the Mercury Prize for People Watching, the album that he released earlier this year. The day after his big win, Fender released his Elton John duet "Talk To You." It's the lead single from his upcoming People Watching deluxe edition. Today, he's got another new song that'll be on that deluxe.

Sam Fender's new track is an awfully pretty ballad called "I'm Always On Stage." He co-produced it with Markus Dravs, his collaborator for half of People Watching. (He recorded the other half with the War On Drugs' Adam Granduciel.) Over chiming acoustic guitars, Fender sings passionately about feeling disconnected from his own famous-guy life: "There's gack and drink and steroids on the counter/ Do you think you're some kind of rock star?/ I did all that when I was on the dole/ But the money didn't stretch as far." Listen below.

The deluxe edition of People Watching is out 12/5 on Capitol.
