The medical sitcom recently returned to screens after a 16-year absence, with lead star Zach Braff returning as the loveable doctor J.D.
The first batch of reviews for the Scrubs revival were positive, with the new season sitting on an 89 per cent rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing. Critics said that the rebooted series “retains its sparky mix of screwball dialogue, physical slapstick and surreal fantasies” and “the laughs come more regularly than most of the newest network TV sitcoms”.
As such, its success meant the show will be returning for another season, as confirmed by a post on its official Instagram page whose caption read: “Just what the doctor ordered: Scrubs will be back for another season.”
The account for its streamer Hulu left a comment reading: “can’t wait to scrub in for another season.”
The show debuted in 2001 and ran for eight seasons, becoming a ratings hit and winning two Emmys, but a ninth season in 2010 introduced a new cast of medical interns with Braff in a supporting role. That season was unpopular with fans, and many of them consider it outside of the show’s canon.
Aseem Batra returned for the reboot as showrunner, having overseen the show from seasons six to nine. Tim Hobert had been due to run the show alongside Batra, but he left production last year due to “creative differences”.
Scrubs isn’t the only past show returning to the air, with NME’s list of TV shows to look forward to in 2026 including reboots of both Malcolm In The Middle and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
