Selena Gomez has revealed Ice Cube was one of her first childhood crushes. During a recent episode of Complex’s web series GOAT Talk, the pop singer told Karol G that she was five at the time and thought “he would protect me.”
On GOAT Talk, artists sit down to discuss their GOATs (greatest of all time) in any range of topics, from food, actors, horror films, makeup tips, and more. The two artists were discussing who they believed to be the greatest rappers of all time when Gomez opened up about her childhood infatuation.
After Karol G named Eminem, Gomez agreed before disclosing a bigger secret. “Can I tell you my first one that I had a crush on? Ice Cube,” the singer said. “I had the biggest crush on him.”
“I was, like, five. It’s so weird, but I just thought he would protect me,” she continued. “I’m only saying it simply based on my childhood.”
Watch the full video below, where the two pop stars also waxed poetic about their favorite songs to cry to, artists they want to collaborate with, and more. The segment begins around the 12-minute mark.
Gomez and Karol G have both released new projects this year. In March, Gomez and her fiancé, Grammy-nominated producer Benny Blanco, released their collaborative album, I Said I Love You First. Meanwhile, Karol G’s fifth album, Tropicoqueta, dropped in June.
This fall, Ice Cube will embark on the “Truth to Power: 4 Decades of Attitude” Tour, his first US headlining run in over a decade (get tickets here).
