Skate season one will add 21 new songs to the soundtrack as part of a ‘90s-inspired update.

Skate launched three weeks ago and already more than 15million players have kickflipped into the world of San Vansterdam. The game’s first season is due to go live later today (October 7) and will add new skatable spots to the city including The Orb and The Skateway.

Skate season one will also include 40 new daily challenges that will rotate weekly, a lighting update, bug fixes and two limited-time events. ‘Skate-O-Week’ will begin October 21 and run until November 11. “It’s a lighthearted Halloween celebration that’s less about the spook and more about getting a chuckle, creating an inventive costume and just skating in a fun outfit,” reads the patch notes.

A week later (November 21), the ‘7-Ply Maple Harvest’ event will begin. “A long-standing festival celebrating the city’s unique maple trees; in the 70s, skaters discovered that the trees’ wood were perfectly suited for skateboard construction. It’s a community tradition rooted in accomplishments, growth, and reflection.”

As part of the Skate season one, 21 new tracks will be added to the bumper soundtrack. The full tracklist will be confirmed in the near future but developers have announced the first ten new additions will come from ‘90s legends such as Bad Religion, Dinosaur Jr. and Ice Cube. Check out the full list below:

Bad Religion – ‘Against The Grain’
Dinosaur Jr. – ‘Freak Scene’
Gang Star – ‘Full Clip’
Jane’s Addiction – ‘Stop!’
Sonic Youth – ‘Teen Age Riot’
Joey BAD4$$ – ‘Pardon Me’
Ice Cube – ‘Bop Gun (One Nation)’
Naughty By Nature – ‘It’s On’
Operation Ivy – ‘Sound System’
Skegss – ‘L.S.D (Live. Sleep. Die)’

“We want San Van to become this destination for people to come and rinse away all the crap and anxieties they’re carrying from their day-to-day lives,” Skate Creative Director Deran Chung told NME recently. “I know if I’m having a shitty day, a good song can really affect my mood.”

“The word that kept cropping up [with the soundtrack] was ‘juxtaposition’,” he added. “If you’ve got all these alternative indie rock tracks, you need something else that sounds completely fresh, otherwise the whole thing would just feel samey. That’s the anti-vision of what we want to do.”

Last week it was announced that Skate’s publisher EA had been sold for $55billion to a group of investors that includes Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. EA CEO Andrew Wilson has promised the company’s “values” will remain unchanged.

In other news, Sony has cancelled the US leg of its PlayStation: The Concert tour due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
