Smirk – “Going Off To Die”

We here at Stereogum are stoked for the new Smirk record, Speculative Fiction. Today's new single, "Going Off To Die," has us even more stoked. A fuzzy ripper about feeling "like an animal going off to die"? Great in theory, and great in practice.

"'Going Off To Die' is about leaving Los Angeles in a sort of quiet defeat," Nick Vicario explains. "It comes from a place of shame and deals with reckoning with who I was and accepting that leaving was the only way forward."

He sings about getting boxes cleared out and losing friends, yet feeling "strangely at peace." It's great. Listen below.
