‘South Park’s collab with ‘Fortnite’ is coming sooner than you thought

Fortnite has officially confirmed a much-rumoured crossover with South Park is on the way – and you’ll be able to explore it later this week.

Last month, reliable leakers HYPEX claimed that Fortnite would be launching an official collaboration with South Park following the success of their The Simpsons mini season.  It was reported the ambitious crossover would introduce a number of new skins, weapons, cosmetics, consumables and a reworked map alongside a new boss and the ‘Everyone Kills Kenny’ rift anomaly.

Yesterday (January 6) Epic Games finally confirmed the Fortnite x South Park event. Sharing an image of Butters sitting in front of a computer playing Fortnite with a character named 67Cha0s67, Epic confirmed the crossover would be going live this Friday (January 9). “Chaos, loading…,” they teased.

“This is going to be a really fun one… and chaotic in the best ways,” promised Fortnite creative director Jonathan Santoro.

Fortnite fans had been expecting a major update to go live later this week but many were expecting the South Park event to be released in March after the current season had ended.

The exact details of what the Fortnite x South Park event will involve are still under wraps but according to several dataminers, a limited-time new Mythic item called The Stick Of Truth will be added to the game, inspired by the South Park video game of the same name. Leaker Wensoing has claimed that The Stick Of Truth will have the game-changing ability to affect the shrinking storm circle that dominates every battle royale match, so it has the potential to shake things up in a big way if the leaks are correct.

Last year, Epic Games reported that their The Simpsons event led to “the biggest number of new and returning Fortnite players” for more than a year with several dedicated animated shorts released on Disney+ as part of the crossover. According to leakers, Harry Potter and SpongeBob SquarePants events are also in the works.

In other news, Stranger Things co-creator Matt Duffer has revealed the final battle of season five was inspired by playing Baldur’s Gate 3.
