Spoon Release New Singles “Chateau Blues” and “Guess I’m Fallin in Love”: Stream

2 days ago 7

Spoon haven’t released a new album since 2022’s excellent Lucifer on the Sofa. But since they’re about to hit the road with the Pixies later this week, it only seems fitting they’d drop a brand-new double A-side single. Hope you like your indie rock of the “surprise!” quality.

Both “Chateau Blues” and “Guess I’m Fallin in Love” were recorded alongside producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Nine Inch Nails, and St. Vincent). The former is a delightfully lo-fi jam — not unlike The Kinks meets The Ramones. Meanwhile, the latter is a bit more deliberate but is still packed with much of Spoon’s trademark wit, piss-and-vinegar mentality, and endless beaming heart. Check out the lyric videos for both tracks below.

In a statement, frontman Britt Daniel had this two say regarding the bona fide jams: “Two new tunes with distinct personalities that were summoned into the world the past few months in Austin TX and Providence RI [sic]. It’s a real pleasure and we’re real happy to be getting back into gig world for a sec. See you down front.”

So, could these songs mean a new album (the band’s 11th overall) is on the way? You better believe it, sports fans.

“We started work on an album this year, and the way that normally goes, we write, we rehearse, we record, we mix, we get it all wrapped up tightly and then start putting songs out into the world,” Daniel said in the same statement. “But as we finished up the first two songs for the LP, it crossed somebody’s mind, and eventually all of ours, that these two really should come out now. Let’s get them out there.”

No word yet on any other pertinent album details (release date, tracklist, other producers involved, etc.) However, the statement did also mention to “keep your eyes peeled for other surprises,” so who knows what awaits loyal Spoon-heads.

After a solo gig tonight (August 26), Spoon will support Pixies beginning August 27th in San Diego, California. That outing also visits Morrison, CO; Houston; Pittsburgh; Chicago; and several other big hubs before winding down on September 17th in Nashville. Grab your tickets here.
