Last month, Olivia Rodrigo covered the Magnetic Fields' "The Book Of Love" for the HELP(2) benefit compilation. Now, Stephin Merritt and Fleet Foxes' Robin Pecknold performed the 69 Love Songs classic on the East Village Radio show Elia Vs.
Meritt has been the talk of the town after being included on The New York Times' polarizing list of the 30 greatest American songwriters alive, with Michelle Zauner penning an endorsement of him. He discussed it on the radio show, saying he was a part of the nominating committee and lamenting the omission of Tom Waits, Laurie Anderson, John Darnielle, Earl Sweatshirt, and Randy Newman.
Pecknold has covered "The Book Of Love" before on his own, as many artists have. He also did a cover of Judee Sill on the radio show following his performance at a Judee Sill tribute show in NYC that happened last night. Hear the full episode here, and watch the performance of "The Book Of Love" below.
