Stereolab Announce First New Album in 15 Years, Share “Aerial Troubles”: Stream

Beloved French-English band Stereolab are back to announce their first new album in 15 years: Instant Holograms on Metal Film, out on May 23rd via Duophonic UHF Disks and Warp Records. They’ve also shared the new song, “Aerial Troubles.”

Instant Holograms on Metal Film serves as Stereolab’s first new album since 2010’s Not Music. The new tunes arrive after Stereolab announced a massive 2025 world tour, along with vinyl reissues of seven of their albums. They previewed their new era by sending out a mysterious vinyl record to fans earlier this month, which ended up being a secret copy of “Aerial Troubles.” Now, its corresponding album will be out in the world just before their European tour starts on May 25th in Belgium.

As for “Aerial Troubles,” the song is a catchy, dreamy slice of psych rock, with a phaser-aided guitar line from Tim Gane and philosophical, surrealist lyrics from Lætitia Sadier. The two sing together in harmony on the chorus, which shimmers over a motorik beat from drummer Andy Ramsay. The song also arrives with an appropriately surreal video directed by French photographer and painter Laurent Askienazy; watch the video below.

Stereolab’s 2025 tour will make its way to North America in the fall, with the group hitting dozens of cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico from September to November. See their tour dates below and get tickets to see Stereolab here.
