Steven Van Zandt Recovering from Surgery, Will Miss Upcoming Springsteen Shows

E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt has revealed he is recovering from emergency surgery and will thus have to miss upcoming shows with Bruce Springsteen.

“Got a sharp pain in my stomach, thought it was food poisoning, turned out to be appendicitis,” Van Zandt wrote on social media on Monday, June 23rd. “Got lucky with an exceptional hospital in San Sebastian. [The] operation was a complete success.”

Van Zandt expressed hope for a swift return, adding, “I’m hoping to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan. Thank you all for all the good vibes. See you soon.”

His absence will immediately be felt during the next show on Springsteen and the E Street Band’s European stadium tour (get tickets here), which is scheduled for tonight, June 24th, in San Sebastian, Spain. That will be followed by a stop in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, on Friday, June 27th, and a pair of dates at Milan’s San Siro Stadium on June 30th and July 3rd.
