Euphoria actor Storm Reid has confirmed that she won’t be returning for season three of the series.
Speaking in a new interview with Rotten Tomatoes from the red carpet of the 2024 Governors Awards, Reid – who plays Rue’s [Zendaya] younger sister Gia Bennett – said she has exited the HBO show.
She added: “I’m very excited for season three. Unfortunately, Gia’s not returning to the third season, but I am so so indebted to the cast and the crew of that show, to HBO. Euphoria’s a really special thing and I’m so glad that that’s a part of my legacy and that I was a part of such a cultural phenomenon and I can’t wait to see what season three has in store.”
Her exit has raised fresh questions about the potential cancellation of the show.

Earlier this month, rumours were circulating that the hit drama’s third season had quietly been cancelled at HBO, prompting a retort from a representative that confirmed the show will be moving ahead as planned.
Zendaya also revealed that as yet, she still hasn’t seen any scripts for the next season of Euphoria but confirmed that filming on the show is to begin in January.
In a statement issued back in July, HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi said she was “thrilled” to reveal that the show will begin shooting this coming January, with the entire main cast set to return.
There have been numerous reports about the delay of the third season, which were compounded by the death of Euphoria star Angus Cloud in August last year. The delays even confused its lead stars – with Sydney Sweeney telling NME that she didn’t “know how soon I’m going home”. Meanwhile, Zendaya said earlier this year that the show’s delays were “beyond me”.
Addressing rumours that the show had been cancelled, HBO boss Casey Bloys also recently expanded on the company’s stance for Euphoria season three.
Ahead of the show’s production beginning in January, Bloys said to members of the press at an HBO event: “We are shooting Euphoria. I think we have a start date, mid to late January. Nothing’s changed. Somebody said something online, and then this whole thing started. We are shooting the season. I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors are in the show.”
Bloys continued: “I know the show gets a lot of attention now because, you know, it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects that are working on, but we are shooting this season, so nothing has changed. It’s eight episodes.”
