Surviving Soundgarden members Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, and Ben Shepherd are reuniting to perform under the moniker Nudedragons at the Showbox in Seattle on December 14th.
The three musicians will be joined by singer Shaina Shepherd at the 13th annual SMooCH concert benefiting Seattle Children’s Hospital’s uncompensated care fund. Their appearance is described on the SMooCH website as being a “brief encore performance.”
Nudedragons is an anagram for Soundgarden. The band used that same moniker when they reunited in 2010 to play the Showbox for their first show since 1997.
Since the tragic passing of singer Chris Cornell in 2017, the three surviving Soundgarden members have only performed together a couple of times. Once during a Cornell tribute show in 2019, and again in 2021 when they backed up Brandi Carlile for “Black Hole Sun” and “Searching With My Good Eye Closed” at the Gorge Amphitheatre.
Additionally, Cameron and Thayil have performed with Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic in the band 3rd Secret in recent years. The two musicians also appeared on The Pretty Reckless’ 2021 song “Only Love Can Save Me Now.”
The benefit show is already sold out, having announced a lineup that includes Sebadoh, Built to Spill’s Doug Martsch, and Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan. Last year’s concert raised $2.6 million.
