The suspected terrorist accused of plotting to bomb Lady Gaga’s record-breaking concert at Copacabana Beach in Brazil believes the singer is a “Satanist,” according to Rio de Janeiro authorities (via the New York Post.)
This Monday the civil police secretary, officer Felipe Curi, revealed new details about Luis da Silva, 44. “He said that the singer was a Satanist and that he was going to perform a Satanist ritual too, killing a child during the show,” Curi said.
On May 4th law enforcement arrested da Silva and a teenaged accomplice just hours before the concert began at Copacabana Beach. The pair allegedly planned to discharge guns and improvised explosives into the crowd of 2.5 million concert goers. Reporting suggests the suspects belonged to online communities that promoted hate speech against the LGBTQ+ community, and that they attempted to use Discord to recruit others.
“They planned to use Molotov cocktails and explosive backpacks,” according to the police complaint.
Officer Curi added that da Silva had been deported from the United States in April. No reason has been publicly disclosed for the deportation.
With a potential tragedy averted, Lady Gaga can more easily celebrate the evening, including the 2.5 million fans who set a new record for the highest-attended concert by a female artist in history.
