The singer went on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss her new album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl‘ and her engagement to boyfriend Travis Kelce, who proposed in August.
Fallon was given a series of rumours about Swift, and when he asked her whether Sheeran had learned about her engagement over Instagram, she admitted: “That’s so true”.
However, Swift said she had the “perfect explanation”, going on to say that the ‘Shape Of You’ singer doesn’t have a working phone. “This is one thing I love about him – it’s very eccentric, love it”, she shared. “But when I’m going through being like, ‘who should we call, who should I FaceTime’, I’m going through my texts, like, ‘who have I texted in the last month of my life?’ And he just wasn’t there.”
She added that in order to contact the singer, you have to email him, and that if you want to arrange a FaceTime, “he has to find an iPad – they give it to him like he’s a child”.
“This is one of my absolute favourite people on the planet,” she added. “And when the news came out, I was like, ‘Oh my god – we forgot to call Ed!”.

The two popstars are longtime friends, having collaborated on the 2013 track ‘Everything Has Changed’ and again in 2017 on ‘End Game’.
Sheeran also opened for Swift during her ‘Red’ tour, and Swift brought out Sheeran as a special guest during the first of her five-night ‘Eras’ tour run at Wembley Stadium.
Since then, the pair have become close friends, with Sheeran revealing that he regularly confides in Swift and that they discuss each other’s work together. Swift has also said that Ed Sheeran may perform at her wedding, as he is constantly asked to perform at ceremonies.
Swift released her twelfth studio album ‘The Life Of A Showgirl‘ last Friday (October 3), serving as the follow-up to 2024’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ reportedly sold 2.7million copies in its first 24 hours and broke the Spotify record for the most-streamed album on the platform in a single day in 2025, with ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ becoming the most-streamed song in a single day in Spotify history.
NME rated the album three stars, writing that “for the first time, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ sees Swift not catalysed into artistic growth by love, but merely comfortably secured by it.”
Fans have since reacted to the record, with some calling it “her best album” and the return of “pop perfection”, and others declaring it “the worst Taylor Swift album yet” and “boring and basic”.
The record also includes a number of Easter eggs and references, which you can read about here.
Swift has further announced there will be four limited edition CDs of ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’, each with two extra acoustic versions of songs from the album – see all the details here and find any remaining stock here.
In other news, Taylor Swift has said she can no longer “relate” to ‘The Tortured Poets Department’: “I am not miserable anymore”.
