Taylor Swift’s feature-length directional debut remains an active development at Searchlight Pictures, and according to a new update from Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider, the pop star has begun working with Alice Birch on the film’s script.
Birch, a British playwright and screenwriter, is best known for her acclaimed television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People, as well as for developing the Prime Video series Dead Ringers starring Rachel Weisz. She also contributed to Season 2 of Succession and co-wrote the upcoming feature film Die, My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence.
Per Sneider, while Swift penned the film’s original screenplay, Birch has been brought on to assist with rewrites, “working closely with Swift and ‘tailoring’ the project to her creative vision.”
In true Swift fashion, the film remains tightly under wraps — with no title, release date, or plot details revealed.
Swift previously wrote and directed All Too Well: The Short Film, which screened at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.
Swift’s deal with Searchlight was first announced in December 2022. At the time, Searchlight Presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield called her “a once in a generation artist and storyteller,” adding that, “It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.”
