Ted Lasso Returning for Season 4 with Jason Sudeikis

As Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) might say, “WHISTLE!” Despite previous claims that the third season of Ted Lasso would be the last, Apple TV+ has confirmed reports that the acclaimed sports comedy will return for Season 4. Jason Sudeikis is set to reprise his role as the American football coach struggling to make sense of the sport he originally knew as soccer.

“We all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,” Sudeikis said in a very Ted Lasso-esque statement. “In Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

In his own, less opaque, statement, Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss said that “Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief. Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

Ted Lasso was initially described by producers as a three-season arc, signing off with a one-hour-and-16-minute-long finale that witnessed Ted finally returning to America to be closer to his son. Yet even before the not-so-final-anymore Season 3 premiered in 2023, there was still a possibility of the show returning for more episodes. “Another arc is possible after this, for sure,” star/executive producer Brendan Hunt told Consequence in June 2022.

Apple TV+ has yet to confirm who, aside from Sudeikis, may be returning from the original cast: Almost certain to be involved are Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, and the previously-mentioned Brett Goldstein, whose options to return were picked up by Warner Bros. in August 2024. Now that the show is officially renewed, the fates of Phil Dunster, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, Toheeb Jimoh, Cristo Fernández, and more will likely become clear soon.

Sudiekis himself offered a possible clue of what’s to come during an appearance on the podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce on Friday, revealing that “Ted is coaching a woman’s team” in the new season.

Over the course of its run, Ted Lasso was nominated for 61 Emmys, winning 13 — including back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series recognition for Seasons 1 and 2. You can watch the first three seasons now on Apple TV+.
