Since the news of Ozzy Osbourne’s death, thousands of tributes have been pouring in, from bandmates to animal rights organizations. In a very Texas move, The Alamo marked the metal icon’s passing by remembering his pissing.
In 1982, Osbourne was arrested for urinating on The Alamo Cenotaph monument — while wearing Sharon’s dress after she’d hidden his clothes, no less. He was banned from performing in San Antonio for a decade. He returned in 1992 on the “No More Tours” tour with Alice in Chains, and apologized to the town’s mayor. He visited the Alamo itself in 2015.
The Alamo wanted to make sure that, in the hours after Osbourne’s passing, you remembered the time he peed on their statue. “At the Alamo, we honor history in all its complexities,” reads a message from the landmark’s social media account. “Today, we acknowledge Ozzy Osbourne’s journey from regret to reconciliation at the historic site, and we extend our condolences to his family, friends, and fans around the world.” See the full thread of messages below.
However, redemption and reconciliation eventually became part of his history as well. In 1992, Ozzy personally apologized to then-Mayor Nelson Wolff and expressed genuine remorse for his actions.
