A24 has dropped the first official trailer for The Death Of Robin Hood, which sees Hugh Jackman put a more sinister spin on the folk hero.
The movie does not have an official release date at time of writing, but is slated to arrive in cinemas later in 2026. In it, Jackman stars in the title role, and puts a dark reimagining on the mythical outlaw.
According to an official logline, the upcoming thriller sees Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder” and, unlike the majority of adaptations, sees him as more of “a battleworn loner who finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation”.
Today (Tuesday January 6), the first trailer has been released, and it sees a weatherbeaten Hood dismiss the heroic lore around him as “lies”, and start to find a new sense of purpose after being saved from a battle that was nearly his last.
Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, 28 Years Later) is seen alongside Jackman in the new preview, and Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place), Bill Skarsgård (Nosferatu) and Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) also star.
The Death Of Robin Hood is written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, who is also the filmmaker behind 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One, and 2021’s Pig which starred Nicolas Cage.
Andrew Swett and Aaron Ryder are on board as producers under the Ryder Picture Company banner, and Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers from Lyrical Media are executive producers alongside Jackman, Sarnoski, and Rama Gottumukkala.
The new thriller is one of many star-studded films from A24 arriving this year. Later this month, the independent production company will be releasing the long-awaited Charli XCX mockumentary, The Moment, which is based around her huge 2024 ‘Brat’ album and subsequent tour.
Other films arriving on A24 this year include Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama, which stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson and will be released on April 3, and David Lowery’s Mother Mary, which is available to watch from April 24 and stars Anne Hathaway.
As for Jackman, the Australian actor and singer recently starred alongside Kate Hudson in the romantic drama, Song Sung Blue. Together, the two of them play Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder, and became noted for being booked alongside popular acts such as Pearl Jam.
The portrayal got a scathing response from the real-life son of the two characters, who hit out at the film as telling “lies” and branded the two leading actors as “monsters”.
