‘The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion’ remake could be coming sooner than you think

It looks like the remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion could be confirmed in the coming weeks ahead of a 2025 release date.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion was first released in 2006 and became a critical and commercial success. The hugely-popular sequel Skyrim followed in 2011 and Bethesda is currently working on The Elder Scrolls 6.

Back in 2023, a leak suggested the studio was also working on a remake of Oblivion with former Virtuos developers backing up the reports. However Bethesda has never confirmed a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is in the works.

That could be set to change though. According to an industry insider, an official announcement is due “either this month or next month.” NateTheHate went on to say the remastered Oblivion was originally set to launch in June 2025 but will now be “sooner”.

Either this month or next month. Release is likely to be sooner than the original June target; but still working to get details on an updated release date.

Video Games Chronicle has since “corroborated” the rumour but claims the game could be released as soon as next month. While Bethesda created the original game, the remake is being handled by Virtuos.

According to various reports, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion will be “fully remade” and feature reworked gameplay systems including refreshed takes on archery, stamina, sneaking, blocking and hit reaction. The head-up display has also been tweaked to “make it easier to understand and more aesthetically appealing to young players,” claimed MP1ST.

“The stamina system was modified to be less frustrating for the player. Archery was improved to make it more playable and modern in both third and first-person viewpoints,” they added.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently being developed and will be Bethesda’s next release, followed by Fallout 5. Not much is known about the title but recently, fans could bid to be immortalised as an NPC in the game.

Game director Todd Howard has also claimed The Elder Scrolls 6 could be the last game he makes. “If I do the math, I’m not getting any younger. “I want [development] to be faster, but speed isn’t the goal.”

In other news, Sony refused to let Jonah Hill touch a PlayStation in Superbad due to his character being “too vile”, according to writer Seth Rogen.
