The Homesick detail fourth album, What’s Up With All These Shangri-Las?

What’s Up With All These Shangri-Las? follows the band's 2023 self-titled album, and sees the band collaborating with Amsterdam-based electronic producer and DJ Rimer London for the first time to develop a collection of club tracks, with references ranging from French theologian John Calvin and Nostradamus, to retrofuturism, city-pop, and new wave.

"Policeness" offers a second glimpse into the album, following "Esperanto" released in April.

Speaking about the single, bassist Jaap van der Velde explains, “This song started as an ’80s dancehall-inspired jam, and because it had a sort of ‘chase’ kind of feel, I felt like the main character of the song should have some kind of weird relationship with the police: always on the run, always in weird trouble."

"It’s also a weird love song in a way, as the police could be the character’s romantic partners; ‘I’ve killed all cops that love me enough’, which kind of fit the idea of the song never fully resolving before fading into the next one," he continues. "We played this one at almost every show over the past three years, and it’s always a nice one to get dancing to. The live version was a bit more minimal. On the album, it’s a bit more fancy, with some additional Nile Rodgers guitars, percussion by Marnix Wilmink, and a bunch of ’80s car-chase synths.”

Ahead of the release of What’s Up With All These Shangri-Las?, which is described as "an egoless operation", The Homesick will be performing at Hamburg's Reeperbahn Festival before touring through Europe, with stops in Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, and more.
