The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to End in May 2026, Citing Financial Reasons

CBS has announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will conclude its broadcast run in May 2026. Instead of replacing Colbert as host, the network has chosen to retire the Late Show franchise entirely, citing financial reasons.

In a statement, CBS said the decision to end Late Show “is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night.  It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”
